The children and family choir at Spiritual Cabaret Lab was developed under the artistic direction of conductor Sofya Voronko, with administration and community coordination by Tanya Besedina. Originally created for homeschooling families, it grew into a parent-child choir open to anyone who wanted to sing together.
The choir started from a simple idea: that singing could be part of everyday family life. Parents and children rehearse together in one ensemble. No auditions, no prior experience needed.

Many of the children involved were neurodivergent. This shaped how rehearsals were run: structured but flexible, with space for each person to move at their own pace. The goal was always to contribute to the group sound, whatever that looked like for each individual.
No prior musical experience was required. What mattered was showing up.
Under Sofya Voronko’s direction, the choir worked through folk songs, film music, pop, and musical theatre. The focus was on repertoire that both children and adults could connect with, not music written down to a younger audience.

The choir is an active part of Spiritual Cabaret Lab’s programming. Families come back season after season.
